It's a cult favouite, you smell it when someone walks past you the - Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream
So we tried the Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream, and to be honest we have mixed but mostly positive opinions about this one.
Obviously it's a cult favourite for its signature scent.
It is one of those products everyone talks about for the scent and the firming claims, so we wanted to see if it lived up to the hype as a Brazilian Bum Bum Cream.
What it claims
The brand says it is a fast-absorbing body cream that can visibly tighten skin to the eye for the appearance of firmness. It is infused with guaraná extract, which is caffeine-rich, along with cupuaçu butter and other nourishing oils. They market it for smoothing the look of skin and delivering non-greasy hydration all over the body, not just the bum. The signature scent is a big part of the appeal too.
Packaging and texture
It comes in a jar and it is really thick in the jar. At first glance it looks almost like a rich butter. But once you scoop some out it glides on like buttery and spreads easily. It feels luxurious without being heavy. My skin soaks it up pretty quickly for something that starts out so thick, and it does not leave a greasy film, which is nice.
The scent
This is the standout for me. It smells awesome. The signature smell is warm and gourmand with notes of pistachio, salted caramel and vanilla. You could wear it as a perfume to be honest, or if you just want to smell good all day.
The scent lingers on the skin for hours after you apply it. If you like sweet, cozy fragrances you will probably love it. If you prefer light or fresh scents it might feel a bit much.
How to use it
We'd use it after a shower while skin is still slightly damp. A little goes a long way. We massage it into legs, arms, tummy and anywhere that feels dry or needs a bit of glow. It works well in the morning or at night.
Because it absorbs reasonably fast, you can get dressed soon after without it transferring onto clothes too much. For extra hydration sometimes layer it over a lighter lotion if skin is feeling especially dry.
What we like
The texture is a winner. Even though it looks thick it glides on smoothly and leaves skin feeling soft and a bit glowy. The guaraná extract gives that temporary tightened look some people notice, especially on areas that can look a bit dimpled. We like that it works as both a body cream and a scent. Skin feels nicely moisturised without any sticky residue.
It has become one of those products We reach for when wanting to feel put together, even on no-makeup days. If you are into body care that doubles as fragrance, this fits right in with other top skincare products that focus on feel-good results.
What we do not like
The skin firming claims are subtle. We have not seen dramatic changes in skin firmness after consistent use, more of a temporary smoother appearance right after application.
Results vary from person to person. It is also on the pricier side for a body cream, so you want to make sure you enjoy the scent enough to justify the cost. The fragrance is strong. If you are sensitive to scent or prefer unscented products this might not be ideal. Some people find the gourmand notes a bit sweet for everyday wear.
