Utena Matomage Hair Styling Stick - A Great Pocket Size Wax Stick for Hair

My honest take on this little wax stick for hair

This is such a great pocket size wax stick for your hair for men or women. The Utena Matomage Hair Styling Stick is small, you can take it with travel, it stops flyaways and it tames your frizz.

It has a pretty good hold and it’s easy to apply by holding the end of the stick. It’s super compact for travel as I said.

If you’re looking for an easy travel frizz tamer or wax stick for hair, this is it.

Does the Utena Matomage Hair Styling Stick last all day?

I wouldn’t say it lasts all day, although you know because you can put this in your bag you could just reapply it.

But I like the fact that it doesn’t really look greasy. It does feel sort of dry in the jar after a few months, but actually after you apply it it still works well. So it appears dry but it’s not that bad.

How to use this wax stick for hair without making it greasy

I wouldn’t go overboard with it because I think it’s gonna make your hair look greasy. I would just go quite light with a few swipes if you want that sleek ponytail look or the sleek band look. But don’t touch it again after you’ve done this because you’ve sort of got that hold in place and you’re just gonna stuff up the hairdo.

Why the Utena Matomage is so good for travel and everyday touch-ups

I mean for the price really you just can’t go wrong with this. It’s not like a hairspray but it’s just super nice if you don’t want to lug stuff around. You want a quick touch-up in your small handbag on a night out or at work at the office.

It doesn’t have a smell that’s obvious and I describe it as like a chapstick – like a plain chapstick with no smell – and you stick it in and go.

If you’re looking for something quick and it doesn’t make your hair look gross or greasy, this is definitely for you. Super easy, bring it anywhere, and it doesn’t feel heavy or leave a residue.

Perfect if you’re packing light - check out our skin care for travel guide for other compact essentials that travel well. And if you’re after more men’s grooming ideas, we also have a roundup of men’s self care gifts and grooming sets.

The chapstick comparison feels right too - see our best lip balms for that same simple, bag-friendly vibe.
