Night time skin care routine for wrinkles

Skin care routine for wrinkles

Today I'm going to be talking about my night time skin care routine for wrinkles and all the products I use to help repair and soften wrinkles. These products also help towards preventing anti aging, and I'll be specifically going through my night time routine as this is different to my daytime routine.

At night, your skin switches from protection mode and goes into repair mode and collagen synthesis. So I'll be taking you through my current skincare routine for wrinkles at night time, and trust me, consistency is everything when it comes to seeing results.

Skin care routine for wrinkles base

First of all, I use my Vichy Mineral 89 serum, and I've been using this for over 18 months now. I usually use this after having washed my face or after a shower, and it's best to apply this when you have damp skin to really lock in that moisture.

Some of the ingredients that it has to help against wrinkles include hyaluronic acid. Whilst it doesn't fix the wrinkles permanently like retinol, it pulls moisture into the skin and instantly plumps the skin, making some of those lines less visible. You can see more in my review here that I absolutely love about Vichy.

It also has Biosaccharide Gum-1 and this ingredient creates a soft soothing film on the skin that smooths the texture. So this is my base for my skincare routine for wrinkles.

Tackling dark spots

Going on to the next item is the La Roche Posay Mela B3 serum. Now, I put this on next because it helps towards some of those aging dark spots and other dark pigmentation that you may have, like post acne, sunspots, and some of those stubborn marks.

The key ingredients that help towards anti wrinkles include niacinamide, and this helps strengthen that skin barrier. Having a stronger barrier means more moisture and more bounce to your skin. If you want to learn more about this powerhouse ingredient, check out the niacinamide benefits for skin.

It also has retinyl palmitate, which is a very gentle form of vitamin A. If you find retinols a bit too harsh, this is perfect for you and provides a very mild renewal effect for the best skin care routine for fine lines and wrinkles.

Understanding the science behind anti-aging ingredients

In La Roche Posay, you have Carnosine, and this is an antioxidant that helps prevent glycation. Glycation is when sugar molecules damage your collagen fibres, which leads to wrinkles, so it has Carnosine inside to help prevent that.

And then something I hadn't heard of before is capryloyl salicylic Acid, and this is a gentle exfoliant that removes your dead skin scales and allows so many other anti-aging ingredients that I'm talking about to penetrate deeper. So far, I've been using the La Roche Posay Mela B3 serum for about a month now, and you can see some of those dark spots start to go down.

Now, next on my skin care routine for wrinkles at night time is The INKEY List retinol serum. So the key ingredient here is retinol, and retinol really helps towards wrinkles by boosting the production of collagen within your face and also the skin cell turnover. This smooths those fine lines and firms the skin.

So I put this on predominantly on my forehead, that's where I see the majority of wrinkles, and I've been using this product for about 2 years now. If you're new to retinol, I'd recommend reading this beginner's guide on how to use retinol before diving in.

Deep dive into peptides and supporting ingredients

If you go a little bit deep into the ingredients, it has palmitoyl tripeptide-1 and 7, and what these are, these are like messenger peptides. They tell your skin to produce more collagen and hyaluronic acid, so this helps to firm some of that sagging skin.

It also has squalane, and this helps to keep the skin more supple and prevents that look of dry and aged skin. This product is the magic in my night time skin care routine for wrinkles.

Targeting the eye area for the best skin care routine for fine lines and wrinkles

To round it all up, I really target my eyes, so underneath my eyes and my crow's feet with the RoC retinol correxion line smoothing eye cream. And you can see in my ROC retinol blog here, my full review with my before and after pictures, and you'll be able to see why this is an absolute essential for your skin care routine for wrinkles at night.

To go into some of the ingredients, you've obviously got retinol that I talked about a little bit earlier, speeding up that cell turnover and stimulating collagen. You also have magnesium, zinc, and copper gluconate, and these actually act together to help skin repair itself and maintain that balance and elasticity.

The secret weapon in eye creams

Lastly, the RoC retinol eye cream has dihydroxymethyl chromone, or DMC, and this is a retinol booster and it helps the vitamin A work more effectively without increasing irritation. If you're looking for more options, check out the best eye creams for dark circles to find what works for you.

How to apply your night time skin care routine for wrinkles

In terms of the application for my skincare routine for wrinkles, with the Vichy, it's quite a thick serum and it pumps out quite easily. So you just need a few drops of that, and then apply it to your face in a circular motion.

With the Mela B3 serum, whilst it comes in a purple bottle, it's actually got a slight pink to it, which is quite nice. It has a very nice fragrance, and you just need a few drops of those. Now don't put in too much because it is quite an expensive product, but definitely worth it.

Application tips for retinol products

With the retinol serum, because of the way it's designed, be very careful because it's quite liquidy when it comes out. Be very careful. It also has a slight smell to it, nothing too bad, but don't be alarmed. Understanding the difference between retinoids and retinol can help you choose the right product for your skin type.

When you're applying the RoC eye cream, put some dots around your eyes and underneath your eyes, and then smooth it in a circular motion. If you get cream in your eyes, make sure you wash it out immediately.

My key tips for success with the best skin care routine for wrinkles

Some of my key tips is follow the same routine and make sure it's consistent. When you're doing your skin care routine for wrinkles, it's not all about having all the ingredients or having stronger ingredients. It's about maintaining consistency within that routine.

Similar to how Korean skincare routines emphasize consistency, your night time routine needs regular dedication. The products need time to work their magic, and skipping nights will only delay your results.

I've learned through trial and error that patience is just as important as the products themselves. When I first started using retinol, I didn't see results for about 2 weeks. However, after my forehead lines became noticeably softer, and my skin texture improved.

Building your routine gradually

If you're just starting out with a night time skin care routine for wrinkles, don't feel like you need to incorporate everything at once. I built my routine slowly over about 6 months. I started with just the Vichy Mineral 89 serum to get my skin used to a consistent routine, then gradually added the other products one at a time.

This approach is especially important if you're introducing retinol for the first time. Your skin needs time to adjust, and jumping in with too many active ingredients at once can lead to irritation and redness. Start by using retinol just 2 - 3 times a week, then gradually increase frequency as your skin builds tolerance.

Complementary daytime habits

While this post focuses on my night time routine, I can't stress enough how important your daytime habits are too. Wearing sunscreen daily is absolutely non negotiable when you're using retinol products. Retinol makes your skin more sensitive to sun damage, so protecting it during the day is essential for preventing new wrinkles from forming.

I also make sure to stay hydrated throughout the day and maintain a healthy diet rich in antioxidants. Your skincare routine works best when it's supported by good overall health habits. Foods high in vitamin C, vitamin E, and omega-3 fatty acids can really support your skin from the inside out.

When to expect results

One question I get asked all the time is how long it takes to see results. With hydrating products like the Vichy serum, you'll notice an immediate plumping effect, but for real anti aging benefits, you need to commit for the long haul. With retinol products, expect to wait at least 8-12 weeks before seeing significant improvement in wrinkles.

The eye cream was the fastest to show results for me, probably because the skin around the eyes is thinner and responds more quickly to treatment. I noticed my crow's feet looking softer after about 4 weeks of consistent use.

Now, if anyone else has another skincare routine for wrinkles with other products, please let me know, drop your comments in the comment box below so I can have a review of those products as well. But so far, of all the products I've used over the many years, this is my favourite night time skin care routine for wrinkles, and you can see the before and after photos in some of the deeper reviews.

Finish with an eye cream specifically formulated for fine lines and wrinkles around the delicate eye area.
