Introduction to hydration serums

Now I use the Vichy mineral 89 serum because I have quite dry skin, so understanding hydration serums is key for people like me. Unlike regular moisturisers, hydration serums work at a deeper level to deliver moisture where your skin actually needs it. If you're dealing with dry skin like I am, or even if you just want that extra boost of hydration, these serums can be absolute game changers.

The beauty of hydration serums is that they work for pretty much everyone, whether you have dry, sensitive, or even combination skin, that extra layer of hydration is always beneficial for maintaining healthy, glowing skin.

Product overview

Brand and product background

VICHY claims that the vichy mineral 89 serum has 89% volcanic water that's loaded with 15 minerals and that all day, your skin feels plumped and healthy. That's a pretty bold claim, but after using it for over a year now for this vichy mineral 89 serum review, I can say there's definitely truth to it.

The brand positions this as their hero hydration product, and it's actually recommended by dermatologists worldwide. When I picked this up during my holiday in Europe, specifically in Italy where I was travelling to, I was drawn to these claims because my dry skin was crying out for something more effective.

Vichy mineral 89 serum key ingredients

Let me break down what makes this serum special according to the packaging and my research:

Vichy volcanic water (89%)

This is the star ingredient 89% volcanic water that's naturally enriched with 15 essential minerals. It's not just regular water; it's sourced from French volcanic springs and is designed to strengthen your skin barrier.

Hyaluronic acid

This powerhouse ingredient is what gives you that plumping effect. Hyaluronic acid can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water, which explains why my skin feels so hydrated after application.

What is it designed to do?

The vichy mineral 89 serum is designed to be a daily fortifying and plumping booster that strengthens your skin barrier while providing intense hydration. It's meant to make your skin more resistant to daily aggressions like pollution and temperature changes.

What skin concerns does it target?

This serum specifically targets dehydrated, dull skin and weakened skin barriers. It's formulated for all skin types, including sensitive skin, which was perfect for me since I do have sensitive skin. The goal is to restore that healthy, plumped appearance while providing long lasting hydration.

Vichy mineral 89 serum review for packaging and texture

bottle and box for vichy mineral 89 serum review

In terms of the packaging, I think the packaging is really nice. It's got a glass bottle, so it feels natural and premium. You can see by my pictures that I still have a third of the bottle, this stuff lasts ages because you only need a few pumps each time.

The liquid is nice and soft on your skin and absorbs quite well. It doesn't have any smell so it's fragrance free, which is perfect for sensitive skin types like mine.

What does it feel like?

It feels really nice on my skin. It's not sticky, it's nice and refreshing and then it doesn't leave any residue on my pillow at bedtime. It just sinks in completely. The texture is lightweight but very hydrating, it's that perfect balance where you get the moisture without any heaviness.

Feel rating out of 10

I'll give the feel rating a 10 out of 10. Seriously, the texture is just perfect for what I need in my skincare routine.

What does it smell like?

It doesn't have any smell, it's completely fragrance free. This is brilliant if you have sensitive skin or just prefer your skincare without added fragrances.

How easy is it to apply?

Now, the reason I've been able to keep it for so long is because you only need a few pumps. I've got quite a large face, so one pump on the left cheek, one pump on the right cheek, two pumps on my forehead and then one on my nose. So five pumps in total and it's just a small pump, so just a pea size each time.

Then I rub it in a circular motion into my skin. It spreads easily and doesn't drip or make a mess, the consistency is just right for smooth application.

How did my skin feel afterwards

Once I've applied this, I tend to use my eye cream, such as the Garnier Vitamin C eye cream and moisturiser afterwards. So in terms of the performance, you've got instant hydration and a slight glow to your skin. My skin feels immediately more plumped and comfortable, especially important for someone with dry skin like me.

Is the packaging practical

The glass bottle feels premium and natural, and the pump dispenser works perfectly. You get good control over how much product comes out, which is important when you only need small amounts.

Does it dispense the product easily?

Yes, the pump mechanism works smoothly and gives you the right amount each time. No issues with clogged pumps or uneven dispensing. Please read on full a full Vichy mineral 89 serum review of the dispensing once at the end

Application and usage experience

How to apply

I use it either in the morning, but almost always at night time. The directions suggest applying 2 drops to clean skin, morning and evening, as the first step of your beauty routine, but I've found my five pump method works perfectly for my face size. After months of testing this application method for my vichy mineral 89 serum review, I can confirm this is the sweet spot for coverage.

For best results with serums, I always apply it to clean skin before my other products.

Sensory experience

The immediate feel on the skin is cooling and soothing. It's refreshing without being sticky, and that fragrance free formula means it doesn't compete with any other products in my routine.

Performance and results

Short term results

You get instant hydration and a slight glow to your skin immediately after application. Even from the first use, I noticed my skin felt more comfortable and looked healthier.

Long term benefits

After using it for over a year now, I can honestly say this has helped maintain my skin's hydration levels consistently in my experience with this product. My skin barrier feels stronger, and I have less dryness and flakiness overall, exactly what I was hoping for when I started this vichy mineral 89 serum review journey.

Did it cause any irritation or adverse reactions

It doesn't cause any irritation to my skin and I have sensitive skin, but always do a patch test for yourself. The hypoallergenic, fragrance free formula is genuinely gentle.

What is the price point?

In terms of the price point, I actually bought this in Europe when I was on holiday and bought it specifically in Italy. The cost is definitely worth it. It's a little bit more expensive than others, but I've been using it for over a year now and you can see I still have plenty left.

How many uses do you get per package?

Coming back to the bottle, I reckon it still has another, maybe six months left in it. So from one 75ml bottle, you're looking at well over a year of daily use, which makes the price point much more reasonable.

Does the performance justify the cost? Would you repurchase it?

So it's definitely worth the investment. I think it's really good value when you consider how long it lasts and the consistent results I've seen. Would I repurchase? Absolutely

Storage recommendations

Like most serums, you shouldn't store it in direct sunlight or high temperatures. I keep mine in my bathroom cabinet where it stays cool and protected.

Where it's made

This is made in France, which adds to the premium feel and quality you expect from VICHY products.

What to put on after

Once I've applied this, I tend to use my eye cream and moisturiser afterwards. It layers beautifully under other products and actually helps them perform better.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Lightweight yet incredibly hydrating
  • Works perfectly under makeup and other skincare
  • The hyaluronic acid and mineral rich formula delivers real results
  • Excellent value considering how long it lasts
  • Suitable for sensitive skin
  • Fragrance free formula

Cons

  • Higher upfront cost compared to drugstore alternatives
  • Glass packaging, while premium, requires careful handling
  • May not be enough on its own for very dry skin types

Comparison with similar products

Compared to other hydration serums I've tried, this one stands out for its mineral content and the fact that it's genuinely suitable for sensitive skin. While you can find cheaper alternatives, the quality and longevity of this product make it competitive in the premium serum market.

Final verdict

This serum is perfect for anyone looking for reliable, gentle hydration that actually delivers on its promises. Whether you have dry skin like me, sensitive skin, or just want to boost your skin's hydration levels, the vichy mineral 89 serum is definitely worth considering.

The combination of instant results and long term benefits, plus the fact that one bottle lasts over a year, makes this a smart investment for your skincare routine.

Overall rating out of 10

I'm giving this a solid 10 out of 10. It's excellent value and a quality product.

Pro tip

Apply it to slightly damp skin for even better absorption, this helps the hyaluronic acid work more effectively.

Vichy mineral 89 serum review update

So it's been 18 months I have using the Vichy serum, and I absolutely love it. Quick note, there was a bit of serum left in the bottle and it stopped pumping the serum out. However, you can unscrew the pump to get the rest of the serum out, just be careful not to spill the serum on the floor. As it's a bit thick it will come out slowly so that's a plus. See the picture below. Overall, 18 months of use and I have just bought another one!

Vichy mineral 89 serum review FAQs

Can I use a hydration serum daily?

Yes, absolutely! I use the Vichy Mineral 89 serum almost every single day, and it's designed for daily use both morning and evening.

Do I still need a moisturiser afterwards?

Definitely. While this serum provides excellent hydration, I always follow up with my moisturiser and eye cream. Serums and moisturisers work together, the serum delivers hydration deep into the skin, while the moisturiser seals it in. Remember thin to thick for your daily skin routine!

Is it safe for acne prone or sensitive skin?

Yes, it's dermatologically tested even on sensitive skin and has a hypoallergenic formula. I have sensitive skin myself and haven't experienced any irritation, but always patch test first.

How long before seeing results?

You'll notice instant hydration and a slight glow immediately, but for long term benefits like improved skin barrier function, give it a few weeks of consistent use.

This Vichy Mineral 89 serum review comes from genuine experience over a year of daily use has convinced me this is a keeper. If you're struggling with dehydrated or dull skin, this might just be the game changer you're looking for.
