VT Reedle Shot 100 review

Microneedling in a bottle - Reedle Shot review

I've been trying the Reedle Shot 100, specifically the 100 strength, and this is the trademarked Cica Reedle.

If you know about Reedle Shot and the VT cosmetics brand, they've been coming out as known for their smoothing properties, anti-ageing, and evening out the skin. It's essentially marketed as a micro-needle in a bottle. Read on for details of our Reedle Shot review.

VT Reedle Shot 100: what is it?

It's by VT Cosmetics, and it does promise an at-home micro-needling-like result. That's why it's become so popular, because of the micro-needling aspect.

People can do this at home, and instead of a needle, it uses natural marine sponge spicules.

These sponge spicules, similarly to a needle, are what help enhance the ingredient absorption into the skin, and that drives the cell turnover for new cells and collagen creation.

The tingle factor

You get that tingling sensation, like what you get with micro-needling, and it makes you feel like the product is working.

It's a prickly feeling on the skin once you start applying it, but that's it working. This prickliness varies - the Reedle Shot comes in 100, 300, 700, there's even a 900 - so you can work up to your tolerance, use it daily or weekly, or swap them out.

I've heard that even using the 100 daily is best over time. One friend was in Korea and had a waiter who had amazing skin, and when she asked how, it turned out he'd been using the Reedle Shot 100 daily for years.

What the VT Reedle Shot 100 claims to do

Some of the claims are that it's good for rough skin, so it can refine it and smooth it out. It gives you that smoother appearance, and it's good for daily, professional-level use at home.

The 100 is the starter kit with the trademarked Cica Reedle ingredient, and it also has that exfoliation effect on the skin.

The supposed benefit as well is that the spicules help it penetrate deeper into the skin, so it's more effective. A 2022 study in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology on natural spicules found this kind of delivery system did improve how well active ingredients were absorbed into the skin, which backs up that tingling, working feeling.

I think some people get freaked out by this, especially if you have sensitive skin, but it's honestly worth a go, even just the 100, as long as you're not putting it near your eyes and mouth. The spicules disintegrating is what the claim is.

If it was dangerous, they wouldn't be using it i for years in Korea, because Korea's skincare industry is pretty competitive and cutting-edge.

It's reasonably priced too. The VT Reedle Shot 100 comes in at around $20 for the 50ml bottle, which feels affordable considering what it claims to do at home.

How to use the VT Reedle Shot 100

  • After cleansing, put this on
  • Take just enough around the areas, not close to your eyes, but everywhere else is fine
  • Massage it into the face
  • You'll feel the little needle spicules while you're massaging, but that's how you know it's working
  • The more massaging, the better, so give yourself a good massage in

How it feels

This product isn't sticky at all. It absorbs quite well into the skin.

It comes out like a white gel, and the harder you press it on and massage it into the skin, the more you feel the product working.

Packaging

It comes in a pump bottle. We like that you can dispense it easily, and you don't get too much coming out at once, but at the same time it's hard to know how much product you're getting, and how much is even left.

Before and after using the VT Reedle Shot 100

We'll talk about the before and after, but the skin is so smooth, and the next morning it feels like a baby, almost a little plump.

It doesn't really irritate at all with the 100. You can barely feel the spicules, and you just get used to it really quickly.

I'd say our skin was better than when we started the two-week test, and the skin never got red or visibly irritated, so the results are honestly great and it looks better over time. Interestingly, a small Annals of Dermatology study on micro-spicules found a similar smoothing effect on fine lines, which lines up with the anti-ageing claims VT makes for this range.

You really need a small amount, even just to start off, and then you get confidence, and it's actually enough to put on the skin. I had some little dark spots that disappeared. I think you'd need to use it for two to four weeks to start seeing results, as we did.

Our VT Reedle Shot 100 review experience

Some of us experienced a tiny bit of purging, some pimples, and some acne, for about a week when trying it over that two-week test, but we were able to use a stronger acid or a retinol on top at night, and the skin was fine.

Things to think about

If you're using a stronger one, maybe a 300 Reedle Shot, you can skip things like retinol on those nights, since it's stronger and it's a lot of active ingredients being put on the skin.

What we likeWhat we don't like
Smooths and plumps skin overnightHard to tell how much product you're using
Not sticky, absorbs wellHard to see how much product is left in the bottle
Doubles as a gentle exfoliation stepTingling can feel off-putting at first
Works alongside acids and retinolMild purging possible in the first week or two

What's inside the VT Reedle Shot 100

Some of the ingredients are glycerin, niacinamide, xanthan gum, macadamia seed oil, silica, adenosine, valine - there's actually a lot in there.

Yes. We were able to use a stronger acid or a retinol on top during a night time skin routine, and the skin was fine. If you're using a stronger one, maybe a 300 Reedle Shot, you can skip things like retinol on those nights, since it's stronger and it's a lot of active ingredients being put on the skin.
